The current official answer
The v1.5.0 update says the game was designed for groups of friends and that the developers cannot support in-game matchmaking functionality or lobby lists under that vision.
This is more precise than saying the game has no online play. Online Co-op is listed on Steam, while random in-game discovery is not supported in that official update.
